A criminal charge is not the same as a conviction. That’s especially important to remember when you are facing a sex crimes charge.
It’s never easy to face a criminal charge, but a sex crime charge begins to change your life as soon as you are convicted. If you are convicted, practically everything about you becomes public record. Chances are you will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of your life. Sex offender registration is part of the public record. Your address, your photo, and the nature of the crime are all available for public viewing. Your privacy is gone.
If you, or a family member is facing this kind of serious criminal charge, you need an experienced and aggressive defense. Contact Bell Folsom, P.A. online in Lawrence, Kansas.

What is Jessica’s Law?
In 2006, Kansas enacted a law requiring longer penalties for sex offenders who commit crimes against children. Jessica’s Law requires that people convicted of a first-time sex offense be sentenced to 25 years in prison. A second offense requires a longer sentence and conviction for a third offense results in a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Only certain sex crimes trigger Jessica’s law. When you come to Bell Folsom, P.A. to discuss your case, our experienced attorneys can advise you if this law could potentially affect your case.
Acquittal In Rape Charge
Our client, an African-American male accused of raping a white teenager in Lyon County, Kansas, faced a possible 14-year prison sentence and a lifetime of registration as a sex offender if convicted. He maintained that he was innocent. After hearing Mr. Bell’s defense over the course of a three-day trial, the jury returned its verdict in a matter of hours. The jurors unanimously agreed with Mr. Bell that his client was innocent.
